Myths and Facts

About Odoo

Odoo is an integrated business management system (ERP) that enables companies to manage their different areas — such as sales, purchasing, accounting, inventory, HR, manufacturing and more — in one place. Think of it this way: instead of using four or five separate tools such as Excel, payroll software, invoicing software and inventory systems, Odoo brings everything together in a single, organised and easy-to-use platform.

No. Odoo adapts to companies of all sizes — from startups to industrial groups. Most of our clients are SMEs looking to grow with greater organisation and control. For example, a retail company may start only with Point of Sale and invoicing, add HR and accounting two months later, and then introduce a website and CRM after four months.

One of Odoo's main advantages is that everything is connected. When a sale is created, it can automatically affect inventory, accounting and financial dashboards. Odoo is also 100% web-based, grows with the company, provides a modern interface, receives annual updates and offers native application and API integration capabilities.

Yes. This is one of Odoo's major advantages. Our recommendation is to start with the essential applications that can generate value quickly — for example Sales, Purchasing, Invoicing and Accounting — and then progressively introduce automation, additional applications and integrations. This reduces the initial investment and can accelerate the return.

Yes. Innovactive provides Odoo solutions adapted to Mozambique's legal and operational context. These include localisations and functionality developed to address the main tax, accounting, labour and operational requirements of Mozambican organisations.

Odoo goes far beyond a traditional ERP. In addition to managing internal business areas, it can be used to create websites and customer portals, operate online stores integrated with inventory and invoicing, automate email and SMS marketing, and manage projects and teams through schedules and tasks.

The data always belongs to the client. Innovactive implements and evolves the solution, but the information generated by the organisation remains the client's property, regardless of the hosting option or support model selected.

Yes. Odoo can integrate with banks, payment platforms, biometric systems, equipment, portals, enterprise applications and other solutions. Innovactive assesses each scenario and develops the integrations required to support a more efficient and connected operation.

No. We support organisations from process analysis and solution definition through implementation, training, support and continuous evolution. Licensing is only one component of the project. The real objective is to help our clients obtain greater value from technology.

Yes. Odoo is one of the world's most widely used business management platforms, with more than 12 million users, an active community of developers and specialists, extensive module documentation, tutorials and official online training. Innovactive also provides local technical support, practical user content and continuous functional guidance.

Investment, Licensing and Return

An Odoo investment typically has three main components: 1. Implementation Services — Innovactive's work to configure the system, import data and train users; 2. Licensing — the amount paid to Odoo S.A. to use the official applications; 3. Hosting — additional costs where applicable, for example when using your own server or Odoo.sh.

Yes — and phased evolution is generally the recommended approach. Our typical model is: Phase 1 — rapid, standardised launch; Phase 2 — adjustments to the organisation's specific way of operating; Phase 3 — continuous evolution through additional applications and improvements based on real usage.

The cost depends on the number of users, the selected plan (Standard or Custom) and the hosting model. Example for Mozambique (2025): Standard Plan (SaaS) — first-year price per user/month: approximately USD 6.37, including the applicable discount. After the first year, the official Odoo list price applies.

Clients can achieve measurable returns through reduced time spent on operational tasks, elimination of duplicated work and rework, improved inventory control with alerts, automated reporting and better integration between business areas. For example, a medical clinic moved its operations into a single system and increased invoicing by 20%.

Yes. For decades, organisations around the world have demonstrated that well-implemented management systems can significantly improve productivity, reduce waste, strengthen control and support better decisions. The return does not come only from reducing costs. It can also result from growth, better customer service, fewer errors and the ability to scale the organisation. The real objective is not simply to buy software, but to build a more organised, efficient and growth-ready business.

That is a possible decision, but it usually also postpones the benefits the organisation could begin to realise. The sooner processes are organised and automated, the sooner the company can stabilise operations, improve productivity and create capacity for growth. In many cases, the long-term cost of maintaining inefficient processes exceeds the investment required to improve them.

Odoo is an open platform, so it is possible to proceed independently. However, doing everything internally also carries risks: poorly designed processes can create rework, disconnected areas can create losses, and serious configuration errors can lead to an unstable system. An experienced partner can accelerate the path to value, help avoid less obvious pitfalls and establish a stronger foundation for growth.

Project and Implementation

There is no single timeline for every project. Duration depends on the size of the organisation, the processes involved, integrations, data quality and the availability of the client's team. In many projects, the first useful deliveries that allow the system to begin operating can be available within 2 to 10 weeks.

Yes. At the beginning of each project, Innovactive seeks to establish a clear scope validated with the client, helping to keep implementation controlled and support a successful go-live. Even so, once the system begins to be used, new ideas, improvement opportunities and additional requirements naturally emerge. Not all of them should be incorporated immediately. When they fall outside the initially agreed scope, these enhancements are normally assessed and planned for a subsequent phase or handled through Continuous Support. This allows the system to go live sooner, keeps the initial project under control and enables continuous evolution.

Yes — significantly. The speed and success of the project are directly linked to the involvement of your team. Projects tend to be delayed when organisations do not ensure user adoption, treat training as secondary or lack clarity about their own processes.

Access and Hosting

Yes. Odoo is 100% web-based and can be accessed from anywhere, at any time, provided an internet connection is available. It works on computers, tablets and mobile phones. Security and performance depend on the hosting environment selected.

For most organisations, cloud hosting is the more economical, secure and manageable option when total cost is considered over time. It avoids upfront investment in servers, suitable physical facilities, power, cooling, maintenance, equipment replacement and specialised personnel. It also reduces risks related to hardware failure, theft, obsolescence and the accumulation of legacy infrastructure, allowing investment to remain focused on the business rather than on maintaining equipment.

Modern cloud platforms use security controls, backups, monitoring, redundancy and recovery mechanisms that, in many cases, are difficult and expensive to reproduce in a traditional on-premise infrastructure. Final security always depends on the chosen architecture, permissions, usage practices and the responsibilities established for each environment.

When using a cloud environment, access depends on an internet connection — much like online banking. Mobile internet can often provide an alternative connection, allowing users to switch networks or use a hotspot and continue accessing the system. Infrastructure failures in high-availability data centres are uncommon.

Support and Evolution

Odoo is designed to be easy to use, but that does not mean every requirement will be perfect from day one. As usage expands, new improvements, questions and specific needs emerge. Support helps resolve practical questions, correct issues, adapt the system to changing realities and evolve it progressively.

No. Continuous Support is designed to accompany the organisation's growth and the evolution of the system over time. In addition to resolving specific issues, it can be used to implement improvements, automate additional processes, create integrations and respond to new requirements that emerge through real system usage. This allows the organisation to continue evolving without indefinitely extending the initial implementation project, while keeping the system current, scalable and aligned with business reality.

An organisation can begin with a small implementation and progressively integrate additional areas, automate processes, connect other systems, create dashboards, portals, mobile applications and functionality tailored to its specific reality. Evolution should be guided by priorities, real usage and the expected value of each stage.

We provide an official support platform. Its advantages include tickets organised by topic, priority and date; a clear and centralised history; the ability to merge duplicate tickets; and visibility over the status of each request. WhatsApp and email can create unnecessary urgency and make requests harder to track.

Myths and Facts about Odoo

Fact: Odoo goes far beyond that. It can manage the company's core business, including Sales, Purchasing, Projects, Manufacturing, CRM, Inventory, POS, clinics, schools and other operations — all natively connected with finance and HR.

Fact: Odoo provides a free edition (Community) and a business edition (Enterprise). For most organisations, Odoo Enterprise provides the functionality, updates and services required to support business operations more comprehensively. The most appropriate option depends on each organisation's requirements.

Fact: Projects that attempt to solve everything from the beginning often take too long, become complex, consume significant time and energy and, in some cases, never reach production. A stronger approach is to begin with the essentials, test with real cases and evolve based on concrete experience.

Fact: The implementation project is intended to place a stable and validated solution into operation. Continuous Support is a distinct phase designed to accompany real usage, respond to new requirements, implement improvements, automate processes and keep the system aligned with the organisation's growth. Because each client requires a different level of ongoing assistance, this component should be adapted to its context and priorities.

Fact: Go-Live marks the beginning of using the system in a real operating environment, not the end of modernisation. Daily operations reveal new opportunities for improvement, automation, integration and optimisation. Organisations obtain greater value when they continue evolving in a structured way, based on real usage, business priorities and expected results.
